It took a while, but it finally happened.
The last post, from July 2004, mentioned the lawn mower and the hit it took. Well, fast forward to July 2009, fives years on, and while mowing the grass out here in British Columbia (home of the 15 month grass growing season) the blade came off and almost severed my foot, well, it didn't get near my foot so a slight fib there.
The keyed fastener for the blade broke, as soon as that happened, the bolt gave way and the blade came off, no big deal but I was convinced that after over nine years, the time had come for my "crappy tire" lawnmover to move on.
It amazed me that the local Home Hardware had the part and a new blade, and a fastener supplier the high strength bolt. Within an hour of the event, and thirty dollars later, I was back mowing with a much quieter (and safer) mower.
It was a thirty dollar day and not a three hundred dollar day, a good reason for a daft smile.
